Just the Facts

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a skin condition that affects more than 90% of women. Directly related to hormonal variations, it also tends to worsen with age. Resulting from microcirculation impairments, cellulite is a vicious circle involving fluid retention, enlargement of fat cells and an alteration of collective tissue.

Why does the skin look dimpled?

Clinically, the appearance of cellulite is the result of enlarged female hypodermic lobules, which give the skin the dimpled "orange peel" look. As a woman, you have two opposing forces which create this visible appearance of cellulite: vertical connective tissue pulling down on the skin; fluid retention and enlarged fat cells pushing up on the skin.

Do diet and exercise get rid of cellulite?

No, because cellulite is a complex problem it must be addressed from the subcutaneous layer to ace on fluid retention. Both diet and exercise affect deep fat, they fail to act on the underlying cause of cellulite in the superficial tissues of your skin. Even women who exercise regularly and follow low fat-diets may still have cellulite.

How do I know if I have cellulite?

Cellulite can be diagnosed by using the skin pinch-and-roll technique. Gently take a large fold of normal skin and rub it between your thumb and forefinger. The skin will appear smooth. Now repeat this test on areas where you think you may have cellulite. Cellulite progresses in the following stages:

Stage 1 - The skin will show no visible signs but bruising and cuts may be slow to heal in this area.

Stage 2 - Looking closely at the skin, you'll see broken veins and skin discoloration. Bruises will appear after a small hit. When pinched, the skin will feel thicker and slightly tender with slight ripples.

Stage 3 - Even without pinching the skin, you'll see evidence of an orange peel appearance.

Stage 4 - the skin will appear puckered and is cold to the touch. Broken veins will be present and bruising scan occur spontaneously.

Stage 5 - Not only will you feel cold areas but hot areas will also be evident.

Stage 6 - Large lumps of fat are honeycombed in fibers, distorting the appearance of the cellulite.

How does Endermologie® work?

Endermologie is like performing gymnastics on your skin and underlying tissue; suction and motorized rollers massage your skin, thus exercising it. The roller heads' gentle suction mobilizes your connective tissue and the rollers help to increase circulation, thus facilitating the exchange of fluids. Endermologie closes the gap between the two forces that originally created the dimpled appearance, thus fighting the appearance of cellulite.

The Endermologie® device is unique because of the patented action of the treatment head that combines gentle suction with two active rollers, creating a symmetrical skin fold. The skin is lifted by gentle suction while the rollers treat this skin fold. Various maneuvers are applied first on the back, then on the buttocks, thighs, legs, and finally on the abdomen for a 35 minute total body treatment. Your individualized Endermologie® treatment will focus on your cellulite-ridden areas.

What is an Endermologie® program like?

1. Make an appointment with a Endermologie-certified therapist.
2. Discuss your health, lifestyle and your cellulite with your therapist to build an individualized program.
3. Ask for before and after photographs to document your results.
4. Expect, on average, 14 sessions.
5. Spend 35 minutes reveling in a relaxing and pleasant massage-like treatment.
6. After treatments, it is recommended to drink lots of water.
